How to join our CSA

Sorry, at this point, we are not taking any new members for the 2013 growing season. Stay tuned for updates as the planning season progresses.

Our good friends Bubba and Sarah are expanding their CSA this year… you can find them at TheCollectiveNewberg.com

The following information is subject to change in the next month or two… please stay tuned for updates.

The box –

Each box will contain the vegetables, herbs and fruits (and sometimes flowers) that are ready to be harvested that week. Members will also have the option of adding eggs, cheese and bread to their base box.  Shares are meant to feed a family of 2-4.

The pick-up –

The pick-up location is our farm. Pick-ups can be arranged for either Thursday or Sunday of each week.

The timeline –

We will deliver for 20 weeks, from the beginning of June through October (and perhaps beyond if we can!)

The cost –

Base cost for each box: $30/week, or $600 for the 20-week season.

  • No “half-shares” please (the logistics of this is a nightmare) but splitting a share with a friend or neighbor  is encouraged!

Add $5/week for a loaf of fresh bread from the BREAD BOARD Artisan Bakery ( thebreadboard.net). Thursday pick-up only if you want to add bread. Our bakers bake on Wednesdays.

Add $5/ week for a dozen eggs from our own happy hens.  Eggs will be available this year on a pay-as-you-go basis. First come, first serve.

Add $5/week for a 4 oz dose of homemade goat cheese from Fairview Farm.

* What can you trade for a reduced cost or free share? Contact us for details!

So that’s the scoop. Let us know if you have any questions.

If you would like to join up,  please contact  nlew0908@gmail.com.  Shares are on a first-come, first-served basis and membership fills up quickly.

Christina! Awesome! It’ll be great to have you! The goat cheese, so you know, comes from Harlow Hills… They supplied a ton or so of grapes last year. But their main business are the dairy goats…

We’ll get you signed up and Alix will get in touch re: payment. Do you want to pick up from Dundee (pearl) or NE Portland?

    Hello,

Just came across your CSA on the local harvest website. I live in Dundee and have been looking for a CSA close by. I am interested in signing up for 2011. Do you do 1/2 shares? I would like a 1/2 share with eggs.

    Thanks!

Hi, I’ve never belonged to a CSA. Is there any way to pay for the produce with food stamps?

Susan, you’re the first to ask this, and you got me on-line to do some research…. I don’t think we can do it this year. The USDA requires farms to make a minimum of $100 in sales each month for the entire calendar year in order to use the EBT system. We only run from June-Oct, which is one hurdle. We’re a relatively small CSA, but I think some of the bigger ones that operate like a produce stand all year round might be able to get their application approved more easily. So, I’m sorry, not that this helps you any this year, but you’ve got the wheels turning for getting us to push this through in the future… I do think some of the local farmer’s markets are set up for EBT.

      Susan,
You may already know this, but you can use your EBT card at some, if not all of the farmer’s markets. I know you can use it at the Beaverton Farmers market on Saturdays (opens this Saturday), and if the Dirtbox CSA is unavailable, I’ve heard that some of the bigger ones also are at farmers markets, so it might be easiest to meet up with them there and ask about their CSA offerings too.

I can’t wait to taste all of the yummy organic produce and the bread too! 🙂 I noticed in the past that you offered people who were not yet members to be substitutes when members were on vacation… how does that work? We’ll be out for a few weeks right at the start.

We’ll be heading out of state on a road trip starting probably May 19th through either the middle of June or middle of July, depending on how long it actually takes us to finish our travel, or if we get sick of being on the road – whichever comes first. 🙂 If the dirtbox boxes are starting the first week of June, for sure we’ll have ours available w/bread for a sub for at least the first couple of weeks, up to 6 weeks. And if it takes more than one sub, I’m happy to coordinate. Thanks!
