This is what a little summer can do!

August 2, 2011

Hi everyone!

SO pleased to announce the arrival of our FIRST RIPE TOMATOES! Whew. It’s been a bit of a scary season so far, weather-wise. Cold, that is. My confidence in having ripe tomatoes this year was waning (it’s the perpetually-worried grape-grower in me). But the tomato vines are LOADED and this little spell of gorgeous weather is doing wonders for the ROCO plot. You’ll start to see them in your boxes this coming week!

Yesterday, Jon and I coerced some friends into helping us pick 26 lbs of beautiful dragon tongue, and green and yellow romano beans, and this morning I unearthed about 45 lbs of blue potatoes. The summer squashes are getting to that point where we have to harvest them every day, and the cucumbers and eggplants are finally coming on! Did someone say SUMMER?!
