Check out our huge melons!!

October 5, 2009

Watermelons, that is… we harvested our first melons yesterday, for distribution in your shares this week, and they are AWESOME! I took one to work last week, and as soon as we cut it open, the entire office filled with a wonderfully potent aroma. And did we mention that the flesh is yellow?! Don’t be turned off by this fact. They are just as, if not more, delicious… as you will soon find out.

A big, fat thank you to Micah, Sharon and Rhett for showing up yesterday afternoon and helping me harvest. In addition to the melons, we pulled together some herbs (rosemary, lemon verbenna – MAKE TEA, and basil), flowers, chard and bok choy, tomatoes, a few more cucumbers, a few potatoes, a few hot peppers, acorn squash, and thanks to Micah, some homemade zucchini salsa! The salsa is delightful.

These folks also helped me prep some more beds and throw in some late season chard, cabbage and cauliflower… we’ll see how the weather treats these little guys, but perhaps we’ll have some goodies to deliver for thanksgiving.

Lastly, we had a wonderful harvest dinner down at the Dirtbox last night. Thanks for all of you who came down and helped cook and provide silly entertainment. Twas a grand ole time.

We have our last major harvest planned for next weekend, so please come down and soak up the last nice days with us before the rain takes over!

Cheers,

Nadine & Alix
