Weekly poetry (in honor of Rob & Chloe’s wedding this weekend!)

August 4, 2009

Wedding on the Dundee

He had the shovel, she the grapes. Feeling radical
they eloped to the confederate states.
In lew of a flower, a cart of beets.
An ellipsis in the sunshine, a running of the gate.

This is no eden, a garden alone.
They will sow seeds in the high meadow,
make tomorrow their home.

Pour four hands in soil; so kneeling ask only a blessing.
Dirt on your knees never stopped you from smiling.
If it gives, it gives once more.
A braying of sing-song heard nightly
beyond the barn door.
