llama wrangling

May 5, 2009

Oh my. Just when you think you can go about your day, maybe have a quiet lunch somewhere while you catch up on emails… you get the call… “THE LLAMAS ARE LOOSE!”

Haysus is usually the docile one who likes to get his neck rubbed and breathe a lungful of randy llama breath right into your nose when you expect it least… But today when I rushed home from the winery to see what the fuss was about, he was all in a tither. Breeze had managed to get him back in the pasture before he started munching on the new Pinot Noir buds, but since Mamma and his sister Como Se Llama were still running free, he was NOT going to stand by and let them have all the fun…

I’m not sure I’d ever heard him make those kinds of screams before.

To make a long story short, it took 5 of us, a baby, and Pacha (definitely NOT a herding dog), to finally wrangle the wild ladies back into their pasture this afternoon. It wasn’t pretty. But we can wrangle llamas with the best of ’em.
